昭和17年10月11日、ラバウルから長駆ガダルカナル島攻撃に向かう陸上攻撃機を護衛する台南空の零式艦上戦闘機二二型
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
海軍には空母航空隊と基地航空隊の二つがあった。
基地航空隊で、台湾南部に在った台南航空隊(台南空・初代)は中国大陸～南方各地を転戦した一騎当千の精鋭零戦隊だった。
この台南空は昭和17年4月1日にラバウルに進出した。笹井中尉、坂井、西沢各一飛曹などの撃墜王がいた。
百戦錬磨の熟練搭乗員が操縦する零戦は未だ無敵を誇っていた。写真の機体は性能が悪い無線機とアンテナ支柱を取り外し、尾翼
から台南空の標識「V」を消去している。機体上面の迷彩塗装は現地の応急処置。
この飛翔場面はブーゲンビル島近海の上空といわれる。
これを撮影した海軍報道班員(日映カメラマン)の吉田一は、紺碧の海、点在する緑の椰子の孤島、白い積乱雲という南溟の美しい風景
のこの写真に触れ、「せめて一本のカラーフィルムが有ったなら・・・」と残念な思いを戦後に語った。
この搭乗員達のほとんどが南溟(なんめい)の空に散った。

　Type Zero Carrier Fighter Model 22 of Tainan Flying Corps who supports the land attack plane which goes to the
Guadalcanal Island attack from Rabaul on October 11, 1942. The navy flying corps had two, an aircraft carrier flying
corps and a base flying corps. Tainan Flying Corps of the base flying corps, was a navy elite flying corps of the match for a thousand which held long record of active service of south every place from the China continent.
　This party advanced to Rabaul on April 1. Shooting-down kings, such as First Lieutenant Sasai, Flight petty officer
1st class Sakai and Nishizawa were in this party. Type Zero Carrier Fighter whom a skillful crew experienced in many
battles manages was still proud of invincibility.
　This body has removed a powerless walkie-talkie and antenna support. Moreover, Tainan Flying Corps's sign "V" is
erased from "V-105" of the tail. Body camouflage paint is an emergency measure of a spot. Two sets of an upper part
distant view are early "amber" paint.
　This flight scene is called Bougainville Island neighborhood marine sky.
　Mr. Hajime Yoshida of the navy press crew member (Nichiei cameraman) which photoed this touched the beautiful sight of the South Pacific, and expressed "if there is a color film at least ..." regretting.
　Most of these crews died in the sky in the South Pacific.

金具は全て定寸用を使用し、外装全体を特別短寸にしている。戦闘居住空間の狭い飛行搭乗員・潜水艦乗組員用とみられる。

All decorations use the Metal parts for commonsense sizes. Since the whole mounting is extraordinarily short, it is
guessed that this Gunto is the narrow flight crew or the object for submarine crew members of battle habitation space.

鍔・大切羽・佩鐶は定寸用金具をそのまま小さくした特製品。他の金具は定寸用を使用。
特製型打小型の鍔・大切羽の存在は明らかに量産を意味しており、かなりの需要を物語る。明確な意図が感じられ、航空隊・潜水艦隊
などでの用途と思われる。

A guard, a large washers, and a suspension mount are the specially made articles which made the metal parts for
commonsense sizes small as it was. Other metal partses use the object for commonsense sizes. The guard and large
washers of the small size made from a casting of special make mean mass production clearly. A clear intention is felt
and the use in a flying corps, Fleet Submarine Force, etc. is conjectured.

台南空(二代)の搭乗員達
　
海軍・台南航空隊(台湾・台南)の戦闘機操縦指導教官達。初代「台南空」は幾多の撃墜王を生んだ海軍航空の精鋭部隊で、ラバウル
に転進した。二代「台南空」は昭和18年4月、操縦者の教導と実戦の二つの任務を負って編成された常設基地航空隊である。
後方右は局地戦闘機の「雷電」、左の三機は零式艦上戦闘機。昭和20年初夏の撮影と思われる。
「雷電」の尾翼記号は「タイ-101」。「タイ」は台南空の部隊標識(初代は「V」)で、「101」は戦闘機隊の一番機を顕している。
日本本土防空用の迎撃戦闘機「雷電」が台南に常備されていたとは寡聞にして知られていない。
敗色濃い戦況で、制空戦闘から迎撃戦闘に変わっていた為であろうか。
然し、敵の標的となる日の丸の白縁は塗り潰されていない。自信の現れとも見える。
中列右から二人目は、零戦※搭乗員のT.S上飛曹(甲飛九期、後に少尉)。
少尉任官時に、近江大掾藤原忠廣の脇差しを短寸軍刀に仕込んだ。外装全長は92㎝。定寸より8㎝程短いだけだが、かなり短く実感
される。
開戦劈頭、無敵を誇った零戦も採用から5年を経過して、この時期にその劣勢は覆うべくもなかった。
有力な後継機「紫電改」の実戦配備は少なく、搭乗員の力量のみを頼りに零戦は戦った。
T.S少尉は、ブーゲンビル島上空の空中戦で被弾。全身に機銃弾片を浴び火傷を負いながら不時着して奇跡的に生還した。

Navy Tainan Flying Corps's fighter plane operation counselors (Whereabouts: Tainan Taiwan). The founder "Tainan Flying Corps" was a crack unit of navy aviation, advanced to Rabaul and discharged many shooting-down kings.
Two generation "Tainan Flying Corps" will be the standing base flying corps composed by bearing two duties, a manipulator's guide and a battle, in April, 1943. The body of the back right is the interceptor "Raiden".
Three left sets are Type Zero Carrier Fighter.
Type Zero fighter which was proud of invincibility at the beginning of the outbreak of war has passed five years since adoption, and it was inferior in strength at this time. There was little battle disposition of a leading
succeeding fighter "Shiden-kai", and Type Zero fighter fought only the crew's ability to reliance.


※ 戦後、米軍呼称の｢ZERO FIGHTER｣とミックスして「ゼロ戦」と呼称されている。制式名「零式艦上戦闘機」の略称は「零戦=レイセン」が正しい呼称
　　である。昭和18年の朝日新聞の記事を楯にして、戦前から「ゼロ戦」と言われていたと主張する人がいるが、この呼称には違和感が付き纏う。
　　日本語で「零」を「ゼロ」と読むことはありえない。
　　T.S少尉は、予科練～台南空と軍歴を重ねたが、「レイ戦」以外の呼称を聞いたこともない。「ゼロ戦」は間違いだと証言された。
　　他の生き残りの複数の零戦パイロットも同じ証言をしている。
　　戦時中に、朝日新聞が何故に「零」を敵性語の「ゼロ」と記事に書いたかは不明である。矢張り「レイ戦」と呼ぶべきであろう。
